Chassell Farmers Market & Houghton Indoor Farm and Craft Market
Bringing local businesses and farmers together to provide as fresh as possible products to the Houghton, Keweenaw, and surrounding areas.

Providing a one stop calendar for events in the Houghton & Keweenaw County areas. Brought to you by the vendors of Chassell Farmers Market to encourage community gatherings, as well as local business and farming efforts.

The Friends of Fashion will present “Riding the Rails” at 2:00, Sunday, August 4th, at the Chassell Heritage Center.
You will enjoy our train theme, featuring fascinating stories of how the characters’ lives intertwined with the developing railroads of the Keweenaw. The time period is 1890. We leave the Copper Range’s “Round House” in Houghton and head out to four small stamp mill locations, Redridge, Edgemere, Beacon Hill, and Freda. You will learn about the “School Train” that transported high school children from these communities to Jeffers High School over a period of forty years. Then, did you know that Chassell had its own logging train? You will find out about this in our second segment. After a short intermission you will meet three immigrant families arriving at the Chassell Depot. Our fourth area may surprise you. Klingville had its own industry, a fertilizer plant serviced by the railroad, operating for 30 years, until the depression affected the country’s economy.
$10 will be sold at the door (cash or check), and in advance at Tim’s General Store in Chassell.
