The Walking Together: Finding Common Ground Traveling Exhibit

January 26

The Walking Together: Finding Common Ground Traveling Exhibit shines light on the tragic history of Native American orphanages and boarding schools, in which conditions were frequently decrepit, and children were “re-educated” to wipe out Native traditions and beliefs. The exhibit will be displayed Monday through Thursday (January 22nd through 25th) at Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College in L’Anse, and Friday and Saturday (January 26th and 27th) at the Niwiin Akeaa Center in Baraga. There is no charge to view it.

The exhibit was developed by the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Michigan in partnership with the Great Lakes Peace Center to uncover, acknowledge and document the truth about Indigenous experiences in the Michigan Native American Boarding Schools.
