Jerome Patryjak Artist Demonstration

Every month the Copper Country Community Arts Center features an artist in the Artists Market with a display of work and hosts a demonstration by the artist that is free and open to the public. This month’s featured artist is Jerome Patryjak.

Jerome Patryjak’s first inspiration came from comic books that were carried around and looked at until they were ragged. The sequencing and the bold pen and ink work hooked him. He later became interested in Japanese scrolls, screens and beautiful papers. His approach to book arts is reminiscent of the Japanese aesthetic. He describes how a book can be an art object in and of itself.  

Jerome earned his MFA from Southern Illinois University in drawing, art history and metalwork. He left Detroit in 2022 and moved to Calumet, the place of his grandparents and mother’s roots. He is a member of Copper Country Associated Artists and also has his work on display there.

Jerome will be in the Copper Country Community Arts Center’s Artists Market gallery demonstrating book construction techniques and showing a broad range of book forms on Friday, September 20 starting at noon. Everyone is invited to come and meet him while he is working in the gallery. Questions are welcomed. Refreshments will be served.
